Pluckingham Palace was a inspired by a larger-than-life silkie hen, Plucky. Even though Plucky was the smallest of the flock, she was the leader. Always curious, she would run right up to us in the garden, cock her head up and proceed to "converse" with us.
Losing Plucky to a hawk was devastating. I blame myself for not providing enough protection - an amateur mistake that Plucky paid for. After her death, my Dad and I added reinforcements and predator deterrents. I also started drawing plans for a better coop.
In the summer of 2017, my Uncle Jerry, who along with his amazing wife Cindie are the owners of Finn Hill Construction, offered to help me build the new coop. And in October 2017, Pluckingham Palace was completed and four princesses moved in: Noodles, Stella, Claudette and Heddy. In December, I adopted a fifth princess, Gabby.
The ladies, along with three sheep (Knuckles, Spot and Wooly) are our pets and a daily source of amusement and joy.
